I went for my monthly oncologist appointment today. Today I would be hearing the results from a breast biopsy and the doctor would be going over my latest blood test to review the numbers.
The oncologist was pleased that the result of my breast biopsy was benign, no cancer but was concerned about some abnormal cells that had shown up in the calcifications that were biopsied. The doctor wants me to see a breast surgeon so that a plan can be put into place regarding how often I should get checkups and what machine they will use to watch the abnormal cells. I heard they have a 3D imaging machine that works better than getting a typical mammogram and that might be considered.
In the meantime, I am happy to report that my numbers have been staying fairly steady and my oncologist feels comfortable pushing my appointments back to 3 month intervals to get my blood checked instead of the monthly tests I’ve been having. I am thrilled! Because the type of cancer I have (multiple myeloma) causes lesions to the bones and bones tend to break easily, I will also be getting X-rays to check my bones every 6 months.
I honestly feel as though I have gotten a piece of my life back. I can breathe for 3 months before thinking about another blood test and what that might mean. It’s like being on vacation from all of the stress and worry I have been putting myself through. It’s a fantastic feeling.
Now I feel energized and just want to get back to work full force. I have missed doing what I love most which is writing and handling clients social media accounts. For a few months now, I have held onto the accounts I had, but didn’t take on any new clients because I just didn’t know what to expect once I had been diagnosed with cancer. Now I am seeing that my life doesn’t need to slow down (at least not for quite a while) and I am going to take full advantage of it.
What a way to begin my weekend! I think I’ll grab some champagne and celebrate. 🙂

Thanks for sharing your good news with us, Wendy. So happy to hear you get a break. I know how good it feels, as my CLL seems to be backing up a bit these last few months, too, and I have more energy. Facing these issues, wondering and worrying, robs a person of that, so it’s such a relief to know you can relax for awhile.
Congrats to you too!! Here’s hoping your good fortune continues as well. 🙂
Woo Hoo! So grateful for the update and have been thinking of you. Be well. Doing what you love is sure to help the healing process.
