Article by Wendy McCance
I haven’t posted an article for a while and thought I should check in. This last month has been extraordinarily busy. I hope you enjoyed all of the guest posts that have been written by some terrific writers. Hopefully their words of wisdom have inspired you to continue pursuing your own dream of writing for a living.
There is another writer who reached out who I know will interest you. I am just finishing up an interview with Amy Chavez about becoming a writer and her new book, Running the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Her interview should be available to view this weekend.
This month has already been full of surprises. Sarah Mahoney, a writer for AARP’s Life Reimagined emailed me and asked if she could do a story about me for their magazine. The magazine emphasizes starting over in your career at mid-life. The story that is being run is about my experience losing my job at the plant, finding out I have fibromyalgia and reinventing my career.
I have also been given a wonderful opportunity to be interviewed for a documentary here in Michigan about networking groups and social media. Ron Robinson (a former journalist with WJR) called me out of the blue about being in the documentary. Months ago, I had apparently written to him through LinkedIn about doing some freelance writing/social media consulting for him. Although I don’t even remember if he wrote back, he has been following my career and had me in mind for this project.
I have been flooded with assignments in the last few weeks, but I am hoping to get back to writing posts for the blog more often again.
If you would like to have some background on how the bottom dropped out in my career and how I had to figure out what would come next, here is the article that started it all: http://www.searchingforthehappiness.com/when-the-plant-closed/
