Well we are getting down to the last two weeks of interviews. I hope you have been enjoying getting to know some of your fellow bloggers. Today you will get to know Cheryl Therrien. Cheryl is a wonderful writer and her blog is fantastic. She has been a great contributor to this blog as well, leaving thoughtful comments and lots of support.
Getting to know Cheryl in her own words:
I am a self-taught tech nerd who loves to write. Writing is my Passion with technology coming in a close second. I am also a breast cancer survivor and a big advocate for self-exams.
What is the name of your blog. What made you decide on that name and the style you chose for the theme?
‘mythotbot’ is the name of my current blog. I chose that name because it melds my passions – writing my thoughts, and technology - in to one cohesive name. (note: Cheryl’s blog has been updated. She is now at http://www.geekgirlusa.com/ and uses WordPress.
I chose the style from a limited selection from ‘Blogger’ and then customized the colors with their limited selection of choices. Notice my use of the word ‘limited’… LOL
I am currently in process of making a move to WordPress where ‘Geek Girl’ will make her debut. She will reside on her own domain. Graphics are in process. Once all is in place my Google & Facebook pages will be set up. I am very excited.
What made you decide to begin a blog?
Writing is my passion and for many years I denied myself that passion in favor of a job that ‘pays the bills’. It suddenly occurred to me that perhaps I could express my passion via a blog. Since I had absolutely no idea what I was doing I started a blog on ‘Blogger’. Blogging has become the forum for my passion and I am now a much happier camper.
How long have you been blogging? Is this your first blog?
My first blog ‘mythotbot’ I started in January 2012.
I also recently started writing a blog for cjonline.com. It is the local online newspaper for Topeka, KS. I blog under the name citherrien.
How often do you write a new post or add a new photograph to your blog?
I try to post on ‘mythotbot’ at least once a week, if not twice, and strive to include graphics or photos of some kind.
I post on ‘cjonline’ once a week.
What has been your best experience since beginning your blog?
Without a doubt my best experience has been meeting other bloggers and forming wonderful friendships with them.
What has been most surprising to you about having a blog?
I think my biggest surprise was that other people actually like to read what I write. I started writing for ‘me’ as my audience. Now I have an actual audience.
What advice would you give someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?
Before you start a blog I would consider how much time you can invest in it. Blogging is a lot of work so it’s something you should really want. Then I would read other blogs to get an idea of what it’s all about.
Any last thoughts?
If there is one thing I have learned through the blogging process, it is that there are people who will support you and those that only take from you. The best way to succeed is to support those around you. Let’s lift each other up and not tear each other down.
Wendy is a wonderful example of this! Thank you Wendy!

Great interview - it’s so honest and so true. The blogging community relies heavily on being a community. You have a wonderful blog, Cheryl.
Very inspiring Wendy. If you do what you love, then time is no longer an issue is it? Thanks for the interview Cheryl.
Cheryl, this quote from you interview is spot on:
“If there is one thing I have learned through the blogging process, it is that there are people who will support you and those that only take from you. The best way to succeed is to support those around you. Let’s lift each other up and not tear each other down”
Blogging friends are great!
Cheryl is a great blogger. i started checking her blog recently only. Her entry on “Finding Your way.com” shows what a talented writer she is. Thanks for featuring the interview with Cheryl.
You brought in one of my favorites to highlight! Cheryl has also been a support to me and my blog. I love reading her stuff and communicating with her via twitter as well. She expresses her joy at finally finding a way to express her passion through blogging, and I totally get that-same for me. Thanks Wendy, for highlighting Cheryl.
This is a very upbeat interview! Thank you for introducing me to an enthusiastic blogger.
I have only recently found Cheryl she is amazing and loved this introduction to her hope more people pop on over and discover her
A lovely interview. It is important for bloggers to support each other, especially when they are first launching a blog. So much to learn. And it is nice to get recognition for your work through the comments you leave for other bloggers and the comments they leave for you. We are a tight-knit community of writers who love the written word.
I’m definitely looking forward to reading more posts from Cheryl. Blogging does take a lot of time which is why many people stop. But I enjoyed your positive message and I agree we all need to support each other in this world since we are all connected in more ways than one. Thank you.

When I submitted my information to Wendy I was still on ‘Blogger’. I had not yet made the move to WordPress and my new Geek Girl USA site. So those of you who click on the mythotbot link now will be redirected to Geek Girl USA. But the good news is that you will not have to go hunting for the new site. http://www.geekgirlusa.com/ Thanks very much to Wendy for this opportunity!
